We all have things we put off. Sometimes, it’s just an email that’s languished in your inbox so long, another day will hardly make a difference. Or maybe it’s some project that doesn’t really matter as much as they tell you does. But too often, it isn’t something trivial. It’s something from deep within our being.
For me, it’s writing. I’ve contemplated it for years, but always let something get in the way. As much as I wanted to, I never started writing, much less a blog – unless you count the Tumblr I made during a painkiller-induced post-surgery haze, to which I promptly forgot the password. Sorry, matheminimal.
But that was all yesterday. No more excuses. Today I enter a new era. I’m standing in line at the jetway, leaving for two months of largely unplanned adventure. It’s fitting: I’m using the guise of “travel blog” to make it a little easier to start. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to share all my failed attempts to communicate in Chinese, but also, there’s some fiction, and even some more philosophical, theological, and introspective posts in me.
So enjoy! I write for me, but I also write for you. It’s hard to keep up with everyone you meet, and I feel bad spamming people’s Facebook feeds. This just seemed like the right outlet for me to keep friends in the loop.
Oooh, and PS: Some thoughts and funny stories are great, but for various reasons, are best not shared with the whole wide world. What I post publicly won’t always have the raw emotion or the sorts of things that could be taken the wrong way. But if you know me personally, it’s different. I know you’ll get it. So even if it’s been forever, just ask, and if there’s a fuller story, I’ll send it to you. Don’t worry, it won’t be awkward – I still creep on my kindergarten crush from time to time too – I’ll just smile to know that you went out of your way to read my writing 🙂
